The Global Integrated Waste Management Services Provider, a large EMEA waste management company with 30+ years of experience, needed a smarter way to monitor fill levels across its recycling centres. In 2017, it began looking for a solution to track bin status in real time, improve collection planning, and evaluate route efficiency. Sensoneo’s Smart Waste solution was selected for this bin monitoring challenge.

Sensoneo installed 169 sensors across the recycling centres in February 2018, using a mesh master-slave setup with 13 Double sensors as masters and 156 Single sensors monitoring 12 of the 17 commodities. The system measures bin fill levels six times per day and transmits data via GSM/GPRS to the cloud, enabling real-time visibility and collection predictions. As a result, the company improved collection efficiency, avoided half-empty pickups and overflowing bins, and maintained cleaner recycling centres with better service quality for citizens.
