A SensioLabs Case Study
Wetter.com, the leading weather forecasting portal in Germany, faced the challenge of modernizing its aging website, which was built on obsolete PHP technology. To build a faster, more flexible, and user-friendly site capable of handling millions of monthly visitors, they turned to the vendor SensioLabs and chose to use the Symfony2 framework for the project's development.
Supported by SensioLabs' expertise and consulting, the development partner 100 Days GmbH implemented a solution using Symfony2 and its components, including the Twig template engine. This new architecture successfully aggregated data from multiple sources and was optimized with caching tools like Varnish. The result was a vastly modernized and feature-rich site that launched successfully in March 2012, solidifying its position as Germany's top weather portal, which at the time served over 13 million unique visitors per month.
