A SensioLabs Case Study
BBC News, a major UK and international media group, faced the challenge of modernizing its outdated website to handle massive visitor traffic and the explosion of diverse devices like PCs, tablets, and phones. Their old site had become static and difficult to maintain, requiring a solution that could deliver content instantly and provide a consistent user experience across all platforms. They turned to the vendor SensioLabs and chose the Symfony2 framework to undertake a complete responsive redesign.
SensioLabs' Symfony2 framework, combined with components like Pimple and Varnish, provided a flexible, decoupled architecture that allowed BBC News to build a single, adaptable codebase. This solution resulted in a tenfold increase in performance, greatly simplified backend maintenance, and ensured content automatically formatted for any device. The new responsive site successfully serves 30 million weekly visitors while preserving access to 15 years of archived articles.
