A SendGrid Case Study
Lightspeed, a cloud-based POS and eCommerce platform processing over $15 billion annually for more than 45,000 businesses in 101 countries, was sending transactional email through a basic open-source MTA when malicious actors began exploiting unprotected sign-up pages. Those attacks led a major European ESP to block Lightspeed’s mail, disrupting critical merchant and customer notifications and threatening client relationships.
Lightspeed chose SendGrid—already used in its North American deployment—and engaged SendGrid’s Onboarding Services for IP configuration and warm-up, API and technical implementation, DNS authentication, and monitoring; Lightspeed also added a CAPTCHA to stop further abuse. The result was improved IP reputations with a 98% average delivery rate, a 75% average unique open rate, and a 25x decrease in spam reports, with malicious list attacks stopping entirely.
