How LUMINARE pivoted its communication technology to transform COVID-19 vaccination in Texas

Luminare, a healthcare technology company, originally used SendGrid’s messaging capabilities to support its sepsis detection software, then pivoted during COVID-19 to help cities and counties manage vaccine communications. The challenge was replacing slow, paper-based vaccination workflows that caused hours-long waits and overwhelmed staff, while still keeping the solution HIPAA-compliant and scalable.

SendGrid helped Luminare implement a high-volume, multi-channel communication platform for waitlists, appointment scheduling, reminders, and vaccine record confirmations. The solution scaled to tens of thousands of messages per minute and helped more than 40 cities and counties across Texas, with over 20 million messages sent; in Dallas County, wait times dropped from hours to minutes and vaccination throughput rose to more than 12,000 shots per day on peak days.
