How wireless sensors were used to monitor an MTA tunnel during construction of a 79 floor mixed-use skyscraper in downtown Brooklyn, New York

Big Apple Group, a construction quality assurance and control organization, faced a significant challenge while monitoring an MTA subway tunnel adjacent to a new skyscraper site in Brooklyn. Traditional wired monitoring was impractical due to the tunnel's confined space and the high cost of shutting down train traffic. They required a solution to detect deformation without causing disruption, leading them to partner with vendor Senceive.

Senceive implemented a wireless monitoring system using 12 Optical Displacement Sensors and their GeoWAN™ platform to remotely transmit data. This solution was installed quickly without interrupting subway service and provided real-time data and automated alerts. The Senceive system successfully safeguarded the tunnel's integrity, allowing construction to proceed without any disruption to train traffic or the project work.
