How large-scale deployment of InfraGuard™ intelligent wireless monitoring provides early warning of slope failures

Network Rail, the UK's rail infrastructure operator, faced the significant challenge of managing a vast inventory of aging earthworks, which were increasingly prone to landslides due to extreme weather. These failures risked major disruption and danger to the railway network. To address this, they partnered with Senceive to implement a large-scale monitoring solution using the InfraGuard™ intelligent wireless system.

Senceive's solution involved the massive deployment of over 20,000 wireless tilt sensors, 750 cameras, and 500 gateways along more than 40 kilometers of vulnerable track. This system provided automated, real-time alerts validated by photographic evidence, granting Network Rail early warnings of slope failures. The results were highly successful, including the proven prevention of train collisions from landslips and significant operational efficiencies from reduced false alerts and site visits.
