TennCare cuts unmanaged diabetes 20% with Sellers Dorsey

Sellers Dorsey partnered with TennCare, Tennessee’s Medicaid agency, to address financial constraints and critical population health issues within the Medicaid population served by two major academic medical centers. The challenge was to improve access and the quality of care for these TennCare members through a new, sustainable funding model.

The solution involved Sellers Dorsey designing and implementing a value-based Medicaid managed care supplemental payment initiative. This program created a new funding stream focused on care coordination, opioid abuse treatment, and early maternity and pediatric engagement. Sellers Dorsey managed the entire process from preparation and design through CMS approval and implementation. The results included a 20% decrease in patients with unmanaged diabetes, a 15% increase in well-child visits, and a 70% increase in follow-up visits for patients with substance use disorder.
