Shaping the future of industrial design with Ecodex

RMIT University, a Melbourne-based university focused on technology and design, needed a practical way to teach industrial design students life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology and real-world engineering tools so they could evaluate and redesign electrical appliances. To meet this challenge they selected Selerant’s cloud-based LCA solution, Ecodex, as the hands-on platform for students to build baseline models and test design scenarios.

Selerant implemented Ecodex as an intuitive, ISO‑certified LCA tool that students can be onboarded to in under an hour and then use for roughly 10 hours during the course to prepare baseline models, iterate scenarios, and compare results. The clear, visual outputs let students immediately discover the environmental impact of design choices, support consistent model comparison, and culminate in compelling redesign proposals—demonstrating measurable gains in learning efficiency and practical LCA fluency thanks to Selerant.
