Tunnel vision – Leapfrog Works gives confidence to critical decisions in Australia Infrastructure project

Golder Associates worked on the West Gate Tunnel project in Melbourne, one of the world’s largest bored excavation projects, and needed a better way to assess complex geological risk and communicate it to multiple stakeholders. Using Seequent’s Leapfrog Works, the team set out to understand challenging ground conditions, including a buried creek channel near the southern portal, while supporting design, tendering, and engineering decisions on a multibillion-dollar infrastructure project.

Seequent’s Leapfrog Works gave Golder Associates fast 3D implicit geological modelling, clearer visualisation, and easy sharing of interactive models, helping the team identify risks, estimate spoil volumes, model aquifers, and export sections for downstream analysis. The software helped Golder quickly bring new users up to speed in about 1–2 days, improved confidence in critical decisions, and strengthened communication with contractors and government stakeholders.
