Solving Complex 4D Problems on Canada’s West Coast

Pacific Salmon Foundation, working with consultant Terry Curran, needed a way to manage and present massive amounts of marine data from British Columbia in a form that scientists, citizen groups, and GIS users could understand and reuse. Their challenge was handling complex 4D oceanographic datasets—across time, depth, and other variables—while building a standardized, defensible data resource for salmon research and other marine projects. Seequent’s Geosoft Oasis montaj was used for this work.

Seequent’s Oasis montaj helped Curran integrate, clean, grid, and slice ocean data into usable 2D, 3D, and 4D views, including maps, sensitivity plots, and time/depth slices. The solution supported analysis of more than 26 million oceanographic records, enabled standardized data layers for a marine-data website, and improved studies on salmon survival, glider surveys, and water-quality conditions in places like the Strait of Georgia and Douglas Channel.
