Posiva, Finland’s spent nuclear fuel disposal company, needed a way to better understand and manage the geology of its final disposal facility at Olkiluoto, where spent fuel will be stored deep underground for up to 100,000 years. Posiva turned to Seequent and its Leapfrog 3D geological modelling software to model fractures, faults, and other geological risks at the site.

With Seequent’s Leapfrog Geo and Leapfrog Central, Posiva can build transparent, dynamic 3D geological models from multiple data sources, improve structural modelling accuracy, and share model updates with stakeholders and regulators. The solution has increased confidence, transparency, and repeatability in the project, helping support regulatory approval for one of the world’s first deep geological nuclear waste repositories.
