Case Study: Integra Gold Corp handles massive mining data with Seequent’s Leapfrog

Modelling large and complex data in the Integra Gold Rush Challenge

Integra Gold Corp launched the Integra Gold Rush Challenge to crowdsource ideas for a next big discovery at its Lamaque property in Val-d’Or, Quebec. The competition gave participants access to more than six terabytes of mining and exploration data, including over 30,000 historic drill holes, more than 500,000 gold assays, and decades of underground workings data, creating a major big-data modelling challenge. Seequent’s Leapfrog software, powered by the FastRBF implicit modelling engine, was used as the official 3D modelling platform.

Seequent provided free Leapfrog licences to competitors and supported them with training resources, helping more than 700 participants use the software during the challenge. The software handled the massive datasets efficiently on standard PCs, did not crash under heavy workloads, and helped finalists build detailed geological models, test hypotheses, and define drill targets. Four of the five finalists used Leapfrog, and Integra Gold reportedly expedited its drilling program after seeing the quality of the targets identified.
