MMG - Customer Case Study

MMG, the global resource company behind the Sepon copper-gold mine in Laos, faced a major safety and operational challenge from unexploded ordnance (UXO) left along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Buried bombs regularly delayed new work areas and created serious risk for mine development, prompting MMG to seek a more reliable approach than traditional “mag and flag” clearance methods.

Seequent supported MMG with a geophysics-centric UXO clearance workflow using Geosoft Oasis montaj, including the UX-Detect, UX-Process, and UX-Analyze modules for digital data capture, processing, testing, and archiving. The new approach improved survey accuracy, verified equipment performance and coverage, helped reduce risk, and ensured no bombs were missed after implementation; it also enabled faster, more economical investigations and helped MMG build a strong safety record.
