Leapfrog’s use in modelling lithium-bearing brine deposits

Eramine Sudamerica, a wholly owned subsidiary of ERAMET, needed a faster, more reliable way to model lithium-bearing brine deposits in the Ratones and Centenario salars in Argentina. Working with Seequent’s Leapfrog software, the geological team sought to better characterize the resource and reduce the time, risk, and complexity of integrating geological, geophysical, and hydrogeological data into groundwater models.

Seequent’s Leapfrog Hydro was used to build the 3D geologic model and generate grids, layers, and hydraulic properties for export into MODFLOW and FEFLOW. The result was a quicker, more intuitive modelling workflow with easy file exchange, automatic grid adaptation, and improved confidence in the model; Eramine reported that Leapfrog significantly improved modelling efficiency and sees strong potential for use in lithium brine resource and reserve estimation.
