Geological Survey of Queensland - Customer Case Study

The Geological Survey of Queensland (GSQ) needed a faster, easier way to distribute decades of geoscience survey data to explorers and mining professionals. Previously, data had to be manually found, packaged onto media, and mailed out for a fee, making the process slow, labor-intensive, and difficult for users to discover what was available. GSQ worked with Seequent, using Geosoft DAP Server technology, to modernize data access.

Seequent helped GSQ launch QDEX Data, an online portal that lets users search a catalog, view datasets, and download geoscience files free of charge, including geophysics, seismic, geochemistry, and publications. The new system also supports direct access from Oasis montaj and MapInfo via the Seeker plug-in, with larger files split into around 1 GB chunks to keep downloads manageable. The result is faster request processing, broader data availability, and a scalable platform for making more Queensland survey data accessible over time.
