Elea iC - Customer Case Study

Elea iC, the leading partner in the Karavanke tunnel project in Slovenia, needed a better way to model highly complex geology for a second 7,820 m tunnel tube through the Alps. The team faced limited borehole data, challenging fault structures, and risks from water inflow, overbreaks, and methane in the existing tunnel, so it used Seequent’s Leapfrog Works to replace time-consuming 2D interpretation with a more reliable 3D geological model.

Seequent implemented Leapfrog Works to combine logs, maps, cross-sections, face logging, and structural data into a single model, define fault systems, extrapolate geological conditions along the tunnel alignment, and support DFN and BIM-related analysis. The result was faster visualization and better understanding of ground conditions, improved prediction of fault locations and rock mass behavior, and more accurate support and excavation planning, with the model also enabling ongoing updates as new construction data becomes available.
