Digital transformation reduces costs and improves communication for urban land development with neighbouring landfill site

Lieberman Engineering, a construction and environmental consultancy in Hamburg, Germany, was hired by the SAGA Group to assess a former school site next to an old landfill and prepare plans for new residential development. Their challenge was to produce a geotechnical report and landfill disposal concept while improving digital workflows and communication across multiple stakeholders. They used Seequent’s Leapfrog Works to help model the contaminated subsurface and support BIM-oriented project delivery.

Seequent’s Leapfrog Works enabled Lieberman Engineering to build a dynamic 3D geological model that combined contaminant zones, landfill boundaries, and excavation plans. The result was better visualization, faster decision-making, and more transparent communication, with the 3D approach taking roughly half the time of the traditional 2D method while producing similar results. Lieberman also used the model to calculate material volumes and significantly reduce expected disposal costs, while creating a digital foundation for future projects.
