Case Study: Aurecon improves ground risk management on Auckland’s City Rail Link with Seequent Leapfrog Works

A Seequent Case Study

Preview of the Aurecon Case Study

Aurecon and Seequent Leading the Way for Digital Engineering

Aurecon, the principal technical advisor for Auckland’s City Rail Link (CRL), faced the challenge of understanding highly complex ground conditions along a major underground rail alignment. Working on a 3.45km twin-tunnel project beneath the city center, Aurecon needed a clearer way to assess geological risks and communicate them to engineers, stakeholders, and contractors. To do this, they used Seequent’s Leapfrog Works 3D geological modelling solution.

Seequent’s Leapfrog Works enabled Aurecon to build dynamic 3D geological models, integrate drilling data, and quickly update ground assumptions as new information came in. The solution improved communication, supported design decisions, and helped optimize shaft and ground improvement works, saving time and money while reducing risk of delays. Aurecon also used the models to refine pile designs and improve time and cost certainty across the project.
