3D Model of Tham Luang Caves Created in Leapfrog Works

Pöyry Energy needed a way to help search and rescue teams understand the high-level complexity of Thailand’s Tham Luang cave system, where 12 boys and their coach were trapped. Seequent’s Leapfrog Works was used by a GIS engineer at Pöyry to create a 3D geological model from government and technical team data.

Using Seequent’s Leapfrog Works, the team built a 3D representation of the caves that combined topographical maps, GIS data, local knowledge, and other inputs to support rescue planning. The model was shared with rescue teams to improve their understanding of the cave environment and the location of the boys, helping communicate geological complexity, though the case study does not report a quantified measurable outcome.
