A Seeq Corporation Case Study
Deepwater Subsea, an oil and gas subsea services company, needed a faster, more reliable way to monitor and report on blowout preventer (BOP) systems for clients around the world. After the Deepwater Horizon incident, stricter BSEE rules required BOP testing every 14 days, and Deepwater Subsea had to analyze large volumes of streamed data, detect issues quickly, and produce detailed compliance reports using tools including Seeq Corporation’s advanced analytics software and the OSIsoft PI System.
Seeq Corporation helped Deepwater Subsea centralize remote BOP monitoring in the cloud, using Seeq with the PI historian to analyze pressure data, compare test results, and identify leaks and other anomalies. The solution enabled Deepwater Subsea to detect 22 control system leaks, help operators extend some BOP testing intervals from 14 to 21 days, and support a case that avoided about $2.5 million in downtime for one rig, while also opening the door to roughly $10 million in annual savings per rig from extended operating time.
