Abbott Nutrition, the nutrition division of Abbott, faced the challenge of extracting more value from large volumes of manufacturing data to improve productivity across its plants. The company wanted to reduce clean-in-place (CIP) rinse times, cut product overfills, and improve decision-making while maintaining product quality. It used Seeq Corporation’s advanced analytics software alongside OSIsoft’s PI System and Asset Framework to turn process data into actionable insights.

Seeq Corporation implemented a three-stage analytics approach for data wrangling, engineering investigation, and sharing insights. Using Seeq capsules, dashboards, and worksheets, Abbott Nutrition was able to quickly analyze CIP cycles, identify root causes such as valve leaks and instrument failures, reduce over-rinsing, and in some cases shorten CIP cycles to increase production availability. In its powder filling pilot, Abbott used Seeq Corporation to calculate product giveaway and determine in about five minutes whether targets were met, helping reduce overfilling, scrap, and variability across shifts.
