Case Study: Lidl UK achieves stronger human rights due diligence and supply chain transparency with Sedex

A Sedex Case Study

Preview of the Lidl Case Study

Lidl UK uses Sedex to implement and embed human rights within their business practices

Lidl UK, a discount supermarket operating more than 720 stores with around 22,000 employees, faced the challenge of embedding human rights due diligence into its buying processes and understanding risks across its global supply chain. To achieve this, Lidl used the Sedex platform and contracted a Sedex Ethical Trade Manager to support development of a technical management framework and responsible sourcing programme.

Sedex’s Ethical Trade Manager established business human rights KPIs for tier-one suppliers, ensured UK supplier alignment with Lidl’s ethical trade policy, built a KPI dashboard for ongoing compliance monitoring, and supported modern slavery training, guidance and internal awareness-raising. As a result, Sedex helped Lidl implement a robust monitoring programme, improve supplier engagement and visibility, and embed human rights into purchasing practices by making compliance measurable and transparent across operations and the supply chain.
