A Sedex Case Study
Asaleo Care, a leading personal care and hygiene company (brands include Libra, TENA and Tork), faced the challenge of managing human rights and modern slavery risk across its fibre-based supply chain and needed a resource‑efficient way to identify high‑risk suppliers and comply with Australia’s 2018 Modern Slavery Act. To meet these needs it joined Sedex in 2014 to embed human rights due diligence into procurement and build the basis for a preliminary modern slavery statement.
Sedex’s platform — including supplier SAQs, SMETA audits, risk‑assessment tools, reports and operational guidance on forced labour and modern slavery indicators — was used to screen suppliers, prioritise interventions and streamline risk analysis. Using Sedex, Asaleo Care increased visibility and focused remediation efforts, grew its responsible sourcing coverage from 89 to 121 active suppliers (rising from 46% to 56% of procurement spend) and prepared its preliminary 2019 modern slavery statement.
