A Sedex Case Study
Aryzta, a global leader in the international bakery sector with more than 13,000 suppliers across Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, needed to scale sustainability and enforce a new supplier code of conduct while improving supply chain visibility. To meet ambitious goals — including conducting SMETA audits on 500 supplier sites by 2028 and achieving focused-supplier visibility by 2026 — Aryzta partnered with Sedex and adopted Sedex’s platform and services (including supplier engagement, SAQs, SMETA audit support, consultancy projects and an Ethical Trade Coordinator).
Using Sedex, Aryzta implemented supplier engagement, risk assessments and targeted mitigation plans, supported by benchmarking and grievance-mechanism reviews. Sedex’s tools enabled Aryzta to complete a global geographic and sectoral inherent-risk assessment, carry out SAQ- and SMETA-based supplier risk assessments, benchmark performance, align its whistleblowing system with international standards, and establish group-wide risk mapping and a multi-year mitigation plan — with clear targets to onboard more suppliers and complete 200 SMETA audits by the end of 2025 and 500 by 2028. Sedex’s platform and account support helped centralise risk data while preserving business-unit control, delivering measurable progress toward Aryzta’s sustainability objectives.
