Fortune 1000 manufacturer closed big security gaps after double-checking its cyberdefenses with help from SecureWorks

A Fortune 1000 manufacturer of specialty construction materials (5,000 employees, U.S.) sought a technical second opinion after a large accounting and consulting firm’s non-technical audit left executives unconvinced. They engaged SecureWorks Security and Risk Consulting — using services such as a Security Architecture Assessment and a firewall Health Check — to identify gaps the prior review had missed.

SecureWorks uncovered a flat global network with almost a third of devices unmanaged, misconfigured VPNs, malicious code and a hidden external web connection, which SecureWorks immediately closed. SecureWorks then delivered a detailed remediation plan, deployed Managed Security Services (including three iSensor intrusion detection devices monitored 24x7), performed an Advanced Penetration Test, and helped develop policies to better align with ISO/IEC 27001–27002; the result was improved safeguards, dramatically increased enterprise-wide visibility of risks, and elimination of the exposed connection.
