Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center secures PHI with SecureData's FIPS 140-2 Level 3 drives

Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center, a physician-owned orthopedic hospital, needed a secure and easy-to-use method for its doctors to transport Protected Health Information (PHI) between locations. Their challenge was to find an operating system-independent solution that adhered to strict HIPAA requirements for encrypting data, especially when downloading information from non-Windows medical devices. They engaged SecureData to address this.

SecureData implemented its SecureUSB BT and SecureDrive BT hardware-encrypted external drives, which are unlocked via a mobile app. The solution provided strong, FIPS 140-2 validated security without requiring software on the host device. The results were that doctors could safely move PHI with a user-friendly tool. By adding SecureData's Remote Management Console, Crystal Clinic could further restrict drive access by location and time, ensuring both HIPAA mandates and their own internal data security policies were met.
