A Secure Code Warrior Case Study

Preview of the ASRG Case Study

Tournament Torque ASRG’s Push for Automotive Software Security

ASRG (Automotive Security Research Group) is a non-profit focused on improving security for the automotive industry as vehicles become increasingly connected, autonomous, and software-defined. To help raise developer awareness and strengthen secure coding skills against common automotive threats like insecure APIs, authentication issues, memory corruption, and sensitive data exposure, ASRG evaluated Secure Code Warrior’s platform, specifically its Tournaments function, as an engaging way to assess and educate developers.

Using Secure Code Warrior’s gamified secure coding tournaments and training, ASRG engaged more than 100 developers across global chapters in realistic challenges tied to their day-to-day languages and frameworks. The initiative generated thousands of training minutes, an average secure code score of 77%, and highlighted key improvement areas such as memory corruption, access control, and sensitive data storage; Secure Code Warrior also estimated potential annual savings of up to $472,500 by shifting defects earlier in the development lifecycle.
