Latvian Ministry of the Interior builds first-generation passport verification system with Secunet Security Networks

The Latvian Ministry of the Interior, through its Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs, required a renewed public-key infrastructure for issuing and verifying new electronic identity documents and passports. To meet this challenge, they partnered with vendor Secunet Security Networks, which provided its secunet eID PKI Suite as part of the project.

Secunet implemented a flexible solution that fully conformed to the Latvian government's specific requirements, providing the complete functional range for a national PKI. The result is a secure and reliable system that allows for the issuance of electronic identity documents and their verification during border control and at consulates worldwide, making Latvia one of the first European countries with this technological capacity.
