Joint Research Centre of the European Commission secures EU Laissez-Passer with Secunet Security Networks in 2 independent PKIs

The Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission required a high-security infrastructure to protect the issuance of the EU Laissez-Passer, an administrative travel document. To meet regulatory requirements, they needed to establish two independent Public Key Infrastructures (PKIs) as a security backbone. The JRC collaborated with Secunet Security Networks and implemented components of its eID PKI Suite to address this challenge.

Secunet provided and implemented the SPOC, NPKD, and DLS security modules, installing the entire PKI system remotely. The JRC team now operates the system, with software maintenance provided by Secunet. This solution ensures the highest level of document and identity security for all involved EU participants, reliably securing the issuance process for the EU Laissez-Passer.
