The German Federal Police required a secure system to electronically verify identity documents at national borders. This necessitated the implementation of a Document Verifying Certification Authority (DVCA) to issue the digital certificates needed for their reading devices. They engaged secunet to provide this critical Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) solution using the secunet eID PKI Suite.
secunet implemented the DVCA and ensured its seamless connection to the existing Terminal Control Centre (TCC), automating the entire certificate exchange and authorization process for border control. The resulting system has proven to be highly efficient and reliable in daily operation since 2011. According to the Federal Police, the mission-critical PKI has experienced no system failures, providing essential security and uninterrupted service for border checks.
