A Second Canvas Case Study
Prado Museum faced the challenge of displaying Louis‑Michel van Loo’s monumental painting "The Family of Philip V" (408 x 520 cm), which is difficult for visitors to view up close. To enhance the exhibition experience in "Their Majesties' Retiring Room," the museum partnered with Second Canvas and deployed the Second Canvas app on tablets for in-gallery use.
Second Canvas provided two tablets offering super high‑resolution zoom and four themed tours ("Who is who?", "French fashion", "Jewelry, badges and appearances", and "Imaginary spaces"), allowing visitors to explore fine details and contextual information they couldn’t see from a distance. The Second Canvas implementation improved visitor engagement and access to the work, making close inspection and guided interpretation possible without approaching the painting.
