Banqueting House - Customer Case Study

Banqueting House, part of Historic Royal Palaces, needed a way to help visitors experience Sir Peter Paul Rubens’ vast ceiling in close-up and to tell the stories behind the paintings where they were created. Second Canvas was engaged to provide its digital tiling and storytelling platform to capture and present the ceiling’s detail and enable on-site, online and multimedia interpretation.

Second Canvas led a phased solution: a three-night digitisation in February 2018 (two photographers, 1,200 high‑resolution photographs producing 2–3 megapixel tiles), studio-based storytelling preparation to map interpretive narratives onto those tiles, and plans for interactive multimedia kiosks in the hall. The result is a Second Canvas-enabled experience that lets visitors zoom into previously unseen details and explore curated stories on-site and online, backed by the 1,200-image high-resolution dataset and kiosk deployment plans for Autumn/Winter 2018.
