A Secomea Case Study
AK-Centralen is a Danish company that monitors and manages cooling and freezing alarms for supermarkets across the country, helping stores meet strict food-safety requirements and avoid costly product waste. The challenge was to securely connect thousands of store systems over IP networks without giving external access to sensitive customer networks, while supporting 24/7 alarm monitoring. Secomea provided the industrial remote access technology used for this purpose, including SiteManager and its LogTunnel-based VPN approach.
Secomea’s solution placed a SiteManager device in each store, connected to Danfoss gateways and other equipment, so alarm and operational data could be sent securely back to AK-Centralen’s central server via VPN. This let operators monitor and respond to roughly 140,000 cooling alarms per year, and in many cases fix issues remotely, such as triggering defrost programs or alerting store staff and technicians. The result was a secure, scalable setup deployed in more than 1,500 supermarkets, with improved uptime, lower waste, and estimated cooling-cost savings of 10 to 25 percent through better optimization.
