University of Michigan Health Services (University of Michigan) needed a robust, highly available search solution for its Drupal-based Find-a-Doctor feature. The existing Drupal search experience was not delivering strong relevance, and the team wanted a way to better match patient queries to the right doctors without managing their own search infrastructure.

SearchStax provided Managed Search to host the Solr infrastructure, while OpenSource Connections helped tune relevance and implementation. Using SearchStax Analytics, the team refined results based on real search behavior, improving the average click position: after one day of tuning, Mean Reciprocal Rank rose from under 0.4 to 0.6, and click depth dropped for key specialty searches like Ophthalmology.
