Case Study: DKOldies achieves improved product discovery and out-of-stock handling with Searchspring

A Searchspring Case Study

Preview of the DKOldies Case Study

With Searchspring, DKOldies can now tailor search rules at a category level while still running site-wide, global rules

DKOldies is a family-run, BigCommerce-based retro video game retailer selling over 30,000 SKUs with a constantly changing 5,000–10,000 in-stock pool. During the COVID demand surge they found BigCommerce’s native search and earlier plugins (like Instantsearch+) too limited: they needed category-level control, better relevance so games rank higher than accessories where appropriate, and the ability to display out-of-stock items while still prioritizing available products. They evaluated and implemented Searchspring (Category Navigation and Search & Autocomplete) to address those needs.

Searchspring enabled DKOldies to run site-wide global rules while tailoring search behavior at the category level, surface in-stock items first while still showing out-of-stock listings, and fine-tune relevance so customers find games more easily. The result: shoppers report a much-improved browsing experience, DKOldies sells significantly more product as items come back in stock, and the team has received positive feedback via social channels since integrating Searchspring.
