Preview of the Piston OpenStack Case Study

OpenStack Private Cloud Solutions are Flexible, Simple and Affordable

Piston OpenStack wanted to make private clouds more efficient, cost-effective, and scalable while avoiding the complexity and expense that often come with managing cloud infrastructure over time. Working with Seagate, the customer used Piston Enterprise OpenStack as part of a turnkey private cloud solution designed to support compute, networking, and storage needs in a flexible, self-service environment.

Seagate helped Piston OpenStack deliver a high-density storage setup using Seagate Enterprise Capacity 2.5 HDDs for object storage, alongside the Silicon Mechanics Piston OpenStack hardware platform. The solution improved storage efficiency with up to 1TB per 2.5-inch drive, up to 76TB per square foot, under 3.9 watts idle power, and an MTBF of 1.4 million hours, while Seagate PowerChoice technology could cut energy use by up to 54% versus traditional 3.5-inch drives.
