GE Healthcare Takes DynamoDB On-Premises with ScyllaDB’s ‘Project Alternator

GE Healthcare’s Edison AI platform helps improve patient outcomes by turning clinical data into actionable insights. When the team needed to offer its Workbench on-premises for hospital research customers, they faced the challenge of moving an AWS-based application that relied on DynamoDB without rewriting core parts of the system. ScyllaDB was identified as a compatible database vendor that could help bridge the cloud-to-on-premises gap.

ScyllaDB’s Project Alternator, a DynamoDB-compatible API, let GE Healthcare migrate the Edison AI Workbench to an on-premises environment with minimal code changes while keeping the same interfaces. ScyllaDB also supported Kubernetes deployment and DynamoDB Streams integration, helping accelerate the porting of microservices and the overall rollout. As a result, GE Healthcare was able to deliver the Workbench into hospital networks faster and with much of the original code preserved.
