The Peacock Room - Customer Case Study

The Peacock Room, a vintage-inspired women’s apparel and accessories shop in Detroit, needed help turning retail experience into a viable business and navigating the startup process. With support from SCORE Mentors Berks and Schuylkill Cty, customer Rachel Lutz worked to develop a solid business plan and better understand financing and revenue planning.

SCORE Mentors Berks and Schuylkill Cty provided mentorship from Henry Moses and John Muir, along with SCORE workshops on small business financing, helping Lutz create a thorough, realistic plan for launch. The result was strong early growth: The Peacock Room welcomed its first customers in December 2011, was on track to triple first-year revenue projections, and added six new employees. The success also enabled Lutz to open a second store, Emerald, which became a permanent fixture.
