Shea Bodyworks, led by owner Saidah Pearsall in Carmel, Indiana, started in 2014 with a single natural skin care product aimed at helping dry, dehydrated skin. The company’s challenge was growing beyond a small product line and reaching larger retailers while navigating marketing, trademark, SEO, and skincare industry requirements. SCORE Mentors Berks and Schuylkill Cty supported the business through online workshops and mentoring.

With help from SCORE Mentors Berks and Schuylkill Cty, Pearsall learned practical marketing strategies, website improvement ideas, pitching tactics for major retailers, and guidance on contracts, negotiation, and FDA requirements. The result was significant growth: Shea Bodyworks expanded from one product to five products sold in Whole Foods and other Indiana businesses, was named one of 102 state winners in the 2017 American Small Business Championship, and entered talks with another major grocery retailer.
