Lori's Original Lemonade, founded by Lori Volk in Ventura, California, needed guidance after budget cuts forced Volk out of her school district job in 2011. With three kids in college and bills to pay, she turned to her homemade lavender lemonade and began building a bottled beverage business, but faced challenges like cash flow issues, ingredient shortages, and figuring out how to fund early production runs.

SCORE Mentors Berks and Schuylkill Cty helped Lori’s Original Lemonade by guiding Volk through the funding process for her first production runs and serving as an encouraging business mentor. With support from SCORE Mentors Berks and Schuylkill Cty, the company expanded into multiple states, sold more than one million bottles, donated thousands of dollars of product to community events and programs, and became a finalist in the 2018 American Small Business Championship.
