LightSource Energy, founded by Robert Sandberg in Portland, Oregon, was launched after he left the banking industry and wanted to build a new business in solar energy. To help prepare for the move from employee to entrepreneur, Sandberg began working with SCORE Mentors Berks and Schuylkill Cty two months before opening the company, seeking guidance on startup strategy, operations, and business planning.

SCORE Mentors Berks and Schuylkill Cty provided ongoing mentorship through semi-monthly check-ins, with Sandberg crediting his mentor as a guiding influence. The support helped LightSource Energy launch successfully, complete a growing number of solar projects, build a strong reputation in Oregon’s solar industry, and generate enough revenue to hire full-time and part-time staff, including an operations manager, sales manager, and three installers.
