Beyond the Grade - Customer Case Study

Beyond the Grade, founded by Mark Turk in 2014, is a nonprofit program in Austin, Texas that provides low-income students with access to after-school music lessons at elementary, middle, and high schools. The challenge Turk faced was deciding whether to stay in a full-time job with limited growth potential or build his own organization, and he sought guidance from SCORE Mentors Berks and Schuylkill Cty.

SCORE Mentors Berks and Schuylkill Cty, through mentor Craig Bentson, helped Turk evaluate his options and decide to pursue Beyond the Grade full time by developing his own business plan. With that support, Beyond the Grade has grown to 15 part-time teachers working in 20 schools and has received several grants from the city of Austin and the state of Texas.
