Atypical Pictures, founded by filmmaker April Patrick in New York City, needed help strengthening its business after the disruptions following September 11 changed industry relationships and exposed gaps in its production capabilities. To address this challenge, the company worked with SCORE Mentors Berks and Schuylkill Cty through SCORE’s mentoring and business-plan support.

With guidance from SCORE Mentors Berks and Schuylkill Cty, Patrick refined her business plan, which helped her win a $20,000 Miller Urban Entrepreneurs Business Grant. The funding enabled Atypical Pictures to buy state-of-the-art equipment, expand its marketing efforts, grow its network, and position the company to begin work on its first feature film.
