A SCM Case Study
Hubert Schmid Group, a German construction company specializing in timber structures, required a highly flexible and efficient CNC machining solution to process solid wood and blockboard beams for complex projects like multi-story buildings and bridges. They sought a machine capable of handling a vast range of piece sizes, from very small to over 19 meters in length, to meet diverse customer demands with precision and timeliness. To address this challenge, they invested in the oikos X machining centre from vendor SCM.
SCM's oikos X solution provided a 6-axis machining centre with automatic loading and unloading, capable of processing pieces on all six sides. Its key features included the ability to handle pieces from 250 mm to 21 meters in length, an 18-tool automatic changer, and integrated laser probing for precision. The results for Hubert Schmid were significant improvements in flexibility, operational speed, and the ability to tackle highly complex milling and drilling tasks. SCM's accompanying Maestro beam&wall software further streamlined the process from design to production.
