Preview of the Freres Engineered Wood Case Study

Freres Engineered Wood boosts panel thickness to 14 inches with SCM Area XL

Freres Engineered Wood, a US-based family business with over 100 years of history, faced a significant challenge with downtime in its mass ply panel production. Their existing CNC machining center from another manufacturer suffered from an inability to source parts and a lack of future support, forcing them to seek a replacement to maintain their innovative manufacturing processes. They selected the SCM Area XL CNC machining center from vendor SCM to address this critical production need.

The solution implemented was the SCM Area XL, which provided superior power with dual 63kw cutting heads, larger saws for processing thicker panels, and advanced tool holders for greater flexibility. This resulted in dramatically faster routing operations and the ability to use larger tooling. The new machine also included a chip removal system that significantly reduced manual cleanup labor. SCM's equipment enabled Freres to boost output with more efficient and precise cutting, ensuring their mass timber products continue to outperform alternatives.
