FHS Holzbau boosts CLT production with SCM using 2 area CNC centers

FHS Holzbau GmbH, a producer of staircases and cross-laminated timber (CLT) buildings, faced the challenge of machining large, complex wooden elements to a perfect, splinter-free quality for easier on-site assembly. To meet these high-precision demands for its CLT panels and staircases, the company turned to long-time technology partner SCM and implemented two "area" 5-axis CNC machining centres.

The SCM "area" machining centres provided the solution, enabling FHS Holzbau to process any request on 5 axes, including milling round windows and sharp-edged corners on thick, 300mm CLT panels in a single operation. The results included exclusive machining quality that won the company a certification at the 2019 BAU Innovation Awards. FHS Holzbau confirmed its full satisfaction with SCM's technology and support, stating the machines are key assets that allow them to overcome any challenge and save considerable assembly time for their customers.
