Extending the Functionality of a SharePoint Search Portal

International Consulting Company, an international consulting firm serving small and medium-sized enterprises, used a SharePoint-based search portal built with ScienceSoft. The company wanted to expand the portal beyond news, event overviews, and PDF document access by adding charts and data tables with current statistics for four industries: healthcare, real estate, education, and hospitality. It also wanted better personalization so users could sort information and gather content relevant to their interests.

ScienceSoft extended the portal with new menu sections for charts, data tables, and personalization, and indexed over 400 pages from Microsoft PowerPoint presentations to make the data searchable and downloadable in PDF and Excel formats. The portal now lets users save favorite search keys, mark pages, set keyword-based email notifications, and review search history across news, events, and digests. The updated search portal gives the client a larger content library with statistical data across four industries and automatic notifications when new matching content is published.
