Stendess designs 141 m bowstring bridge with SCIA

The customer, Stendess, faced the challenge of rebuilding a 141-meter-long bowstring bridge in Belgium to widen the Albert Canal. They needed to design a structure with a single central arch and an orthotropic deck, which required sophisticated engineering software for dimensioning, stability analysis, and dynamic checks. They used SCIA Engineer from vendor SCIA for this complex project.

Using SCIA Engineer, Stendess was able to model the bridge's graphical sections, perform a second-order analysis by generating stability shapes, and conduct dynamic checks for traffic and wind conditions. This allowed for the successful design and erection of the 650-ton bridge. The software provided by SCIA was crucial for overcoming the project's engineering challenges and ensuring a high-quality, stable final structure.
