Pieters Bouwtechniek designs a 10 m timber roof structure with SCIA

The customer, Pieters Bouwtechniek, an independent engineering firm, faced a challenge designing the SuperHub, a market hall with a fully timber structure. Their challenge was to analyze the complex asymmetrical loading of a large diagrid roof and design connections without any visible steel elements, which was architecturally required. They partnered with vendor SCIA and utilized their SCIA Engineer software to address this.

SCIA provided a solution by enabling the engineering team to run dozens of iterations in a 3D analysis model to test hinge placements and connection stiffness. This was crucial for deciphering the complex interplay of forces, especially at the difficult cantilevering corners. As a result, SCIA helped Pieters Bouwtechniek achieve a feasible and successful design for the structure, which went on to be a winner in the SCIA User Contest 2023.
